If this is for your 55g, then you should be fine, except for the guppy. Guppies tend to not do well with high flow rates, it damages their fancy fin's.

Alex, when your new tank is only a month or two away would be plenty soon enough to start preparing the filter for the tank clone. In the meantime you have plenty of flow for a 55. As you said, it looks like overkill.
