i understand why there could be confusion, but as the OP had already stated both gallons and long, i figured it was safe to abbreviate. obviously the OP is american if they are using gallons. however if the OP were in the UK, then the confusion would make sense.

Bitterspects you should not be encouraging people to buy fish that are too large for the tank they own thats what leads to many problems in fish keeping (the op already has a bala shark that needs to be rehomed so best not to give bad advise)- people buying fish that are not suitable to be housed in their current tanks , or in the incorrect numbers or with incompatible tank mated

CLOWN loaches should also be kept in groups of 6+

OP gor for 10-15 khuli loaches these add little to the bio load on the tank and are a great addition

Personally, I would not get clowns even if they are tiny to begin with. There are plenty of other loach options for that tank size.

i give complete and factual advise, and i suggest you do the same. i never suggested a fish thats too large for the tank, i suggested a fish that is aptly sized for the current tank, and to upgrade as necessary ina few years.
the problem is people like you who just say "NO" without bothering to explain anything about the fish. that, would be "bad advise". bala sharks are a completely different story. if youre going to provide information at all, please provide complete and factual information, or just do not bother at all.

as has been stated, it will take many years before you even have to think about rehoming the loaches, or upgrading to a bigger tank.

According to the link pippoodle posted, when kept in the proper environmet, these fish can grow quickly to 5" in length before their growth slows. If anyone has a specific reason to dispute this, please share it with us.

acording to 99% of people who have ever owned CL, that is wrong. sure its possible once ever million cases. anything is possible. take a look around some of the forums. you can probably find more info on CL on MFK then just about any other forum
i have seen 7yo CL in perfect conditions, fed well, and in ah uge tank, that are only around 8"

1"-8" in 7years.
do the math

*edit, after reading through a few threads and forums, 4" a year seems common, and then they slow quite a bit after the first year.

please dont clown loaches hun , go to loaches online - and search the other loaches available there a lots you can order specially from lfs that are as colourful as clowns but dont grow as big
the clown can grow to 5" in the first year and seeing as you need at least 6 in a group for them to be happy you would be adding at least 30" of fish to a 30 gallon tank which already has stock in it so you would be severly overstocked very quickly
