I came here in hopes of finding answers on a Blackwater tank.

I have been with aquarium setups of all kinds for at least 40 years. Made my mistakes, created disasters, been thru it all. :/ I'll be reading thru this forum and hopefully be able to help on some things.
I currently have a newly set up flex 2 15 gal blackwater tank. My plan was to have 3 or more Apistos, but I think the tank is too small for them. So I will probably just have a few cardinals and a couple Otos.
I also have a small tank with saltwater goby/pistol shrimp with mushrooms and zoanthids that has been set up for a couple years.

I recently sold a reef system that I have had running for 14 years. Most all the original inhabitants were still there and thriving. I needed to downsize to smaller tanks, age and maintenance time was main motivation.
Here is my vision of the blackwater tank.

Welcome to this wonderful forum. I am currently using an additive to my 80 litre tank as well as Alder cones in mesh bags so I an fish them out after about 3 months. May have posted this on your thread, not sure, my brain is fried today.

I am also using blackwater extract, alder cones, capatta leaves. Tank should be dark amber.

Welcome to our forum... :hi:
I've got a black water tank filled with goodeids as Xenotoca lyonsi and Zoogoneticus tequila.

Nice. But, from what I understand, those fish like higher PH and harder water parameters than what I am doing, which is soft and low ph.
Those goodeids are kind of rare and hard to acquire, aren't they? I have never seen them in a LFS

Welcome to TFF.
I don't have a blackwater aquarium, but I do have a black thumb and a.black heart, does that count?

Neutral till hard water. But they also occur in areas where there's a lot of fallen leaves on the bottom. At such areas, the water is softer.
These two goodeid species are available in the commercial trade but bot are still being considered rare through retail.
