Would A Bottle Work For A Diy Filter?

I'm going to make a filter for some axolotls and I need a large volume of media. Aside from the difficulty of getting the airstone to the bottom and staying there, do you think a bottle like this one

would work OK?

yes i have done it before




this can be made from a half ltr bottle
up over i made the 2 ltr one worked very
well

I was just searching for the thread I used to make my last one, but the only one I could find had a wide pipe with the airline threaded into it, and no holes in the bottom.
Holes around the sides of the base look like they'd work better actually.

holes around the bottom work very
well you could also put a small amount
gravel in the bottom then filter floss
then put your air stone and line in then
fill with ceramic rings or something like that
i have done the same thing but left the air line
and stone out and put a power head on top of the bottle
and turned it in to a power filter it amazing what you come
up with when things brake on a weekend
