I got a male betta yesterday, upto now the tanks fine for him and he has things to play with, just yesterday night i gave him a bloodowrm he ate it but i was recommended by the fish keeper to by 'king british, tropical fish flakes' i tryed one of these soaked and betta eats it then spits it back out.
Today i tried 'wilkinsons, goldfish food' which is like pellets in a sort of ball shape, my betta showed real interest in this and ate about 4 of them.
Is it alright for me to feed these?
By the name 'goldfish food' i was thinking the foods for coldwater fish but the betta loves them!

No don't feed your betta those as they don't contain the right nutrients for him.

Get some specialized betta pellets. I use hikari betta bio gold and so do many users of this forum, the bettas love them and they are a very good staple diet.

They are very cheap at between £2-3 in the UK and can be bought at most places including pets@home.

I feed mine 3 in the morning and 2-3 at night with the odd starve day.

You can but i really would get him some betta pellets.

You should only feed bloodworms one or twice a week as they are very rich in protein and can cause constipation.

Fully agree with Forest... vary your diet.... he'll accept what is offered. i.e... feed him.... he'll eat.... no issue. (issues start when you make an issue out of it)

Since I vary my diets greatly, my boys will at least try anything I throw in there...which can be bad when the kids are over....lol. But I wouldnt feed a non betta food as a staple. Bettas have different needs, which the betta pellets supply.

How long does that 2g packet last a betta? It doesn't seem like much at all

I got no money unless i can get a couple of pound of my sister or mum, but my dads already gave me £10 yesterday as a treat for good work at school and mum payed £8 for my heater, so they wont give me any more, im sure he will get hungry and have a flake.
But first priority is to get that food you suggested.
Does your betta seem to like them?

Last night shimmer ate a bit of a tropical flake and this mornine g it looked like he was waiting for his breakfast and he at 3 small flakes, he kind of dived at them lol!
