Woke Up To Water On The Floor.

I did a water change yesterday and decided to replace the wool in one of my externals. Job done.

I Came downstairs this morning, looked at the tank and wondered why the water level had dropped a couple of inches. Soon as I walked towards the tank I could see the water all over the floor. Quick look at the filter and I could see it had leaked. Next job was to drain the tank as low as safe just so I could move it enough to mop all the water up (5ft 95gal tank). Quick check of the filter and I notice I hadnt quite got one of the clips on properly, sort that out and refil tank. As a precaution I place the filter in a large bowl and then just pray my laminate floor doesnt lift with all the water that was on it.

Checked on it recently and the bowl was half full of water (thank goodness for the bowl). I had another look at the filter, stripped it down but found nothing wrong, although I did clean the rubber seal on the lid this time even though it wasnt very dirty.

So far no more leaks.

Anyone else "flooded" the house?

I shouldn't laugh but yes it's happened to me
fell asleep on the sofa one night and woke up to a horrible gurgling sound .. The air pump had fallen down behind the tank and proceeded to empty the whole 120l all over the floor damaging the laminate into the bargain .. We live and learn

Yep bin there, flooded the front room when the filter on the turtle tank didnt seal properly, unfortunately with the turtle tank the water level is lower and the level went below the intake of the filter and blew that aswell as flooding the floor

i'm glad that hasn't ever happened to me. my dad would get rid of the tank straight away. the worst i've done is pour a jug full of water down the back of the tank when i was re priming my filter.

Its happened to me, but not the filter and no technology fault, i was cleaning my tank with a gravel vacuum and i got distracted by the fireworks, the bucket was over flowing, and that day i had a bad day, it was about 4 inches of water left, the water was driping through the floor boards over my flat screen tv, because this tank was up stairs in my room, the worst mistake of my fish keeping years Lol.

bin the filter and buy another.

Well I just checked on it and its leaking again. The filter is an Eheim pro3 2073 and is no more than a year old. It is a very slight leak and it appears to be coming from the cable outlet on the motor head but I cant believe that it really would be. Im going to try a bit of vaseline on the seal and see if that has any effect.

If it comes to it I can remove the filter for the time being as I run 3 externals on the tank.

Anyone know where I left my receipt

Yup, swished all the sand around whilst the filter was running. Filter was one of these over the top of the tank aqua aquarium jobbies and proceeded to fill the media compartments with sand which helped the water run right over the back of the tank.

I emptied the whole tank twice thinking the bottom of it had cracked, until by chance I spotted the water running at the back

flooded my floor after cleaning my fx5, turns out the purge valve is leaking so its up on bricks with a bottle under it.

My air pump's check valve had been broken (long story, basically, someone smashed it by stepping on it) and I figured I'd replace it in the morning. I'd turned off the air pump, forgetting that the check valve was broken, and woke up the next morning to 3 gallons of water all over my desk, in my desk drawers, and all over a $90.00 text book. Learned a lesson from that one... had to replace the textbook. I've since then replaced the check valve and never even set up an air pump without one.
