Speaking with some members from ukaps late one night, we got chatting about what could possibly make a Great British 'Scape - many jokes were passed around about shopping trolleys, empty beer cans and bottles, sticklebacks and the like, but it got me thinking about alternative ideas... and when I stepped out of the house the next day, it hit me! Living in a new house on a new estate is great, but our back lawn was a mess, so a few summers ago I turned the entire lawn over to start fresh, only to discover about 50 or so bricks left over from some (lazy) builders. A few bricks I'd kept for unknown reasons were happily being covered by winter growth just behind my shed, and they looked just the ticket...

Comments and critiques very welcome :)

Looks great and very Unique!!

Looks just like my front garden.

Edit: I've just seen a fish list on the journal

3 x Otto
6 x Ember Tetra (for now)
10 x Red Cherry Shrimp

You still got these in there?

Yup, all fish and shrimp still there and happy. More tetras are being added from another tank eventually.

Very cool, why not try a few (all females or one male and a couple of females) sticklebacks in there?

Have you modded that luminaire to take an Aquaray system?

Hi :)

Sticklebacks aren't really my thing, but its a nice suggestion. No mod to the light, just partially covered 1 tube with bits of card lol. Realistically, 1 x 24w is enough for this tank for the first few weeks at least.

Thanks :)

Shadows/highlights and Colour balance are tweaked slightly, yes. But then I'm only using a cheap Fujifilm S5700.

Looks great James, always love original ideas, and this is about as original as it gets, it defies all the rules about the nature aquarium but still seems to impress, glad you had the guts to do something out of the ordinary as you certainly pulled this one out of the top draw.

I love this. I laughed when I saw it, but not to make fun. I think this is a great idea! Sorta reminds me of how nature will take back what we destroy. Very original and unique.
What is a stickleback?

A member of the family Gasterosteidae. Known for not having scales and possessing spines in their dorsal fin.

Three-spined stickleback

I remember watching a documentary that featured them once, and I could have sworn that it was David Attenborough narrating and that there was most certainly stickleback porn (breeding).

Neat idea for a tank. Would be cool with a beer bottle too. It does remind me of that show "Life after People". That being said, lovely plant growth, very lush.

The contrast between the orange brick and the green hairgrass? is stunning! Great work on a contempory design i love it!
