What are you growing your bacteria on?Iāve just set up an aquarium. Itās a one gallon, no filter. Iām currently cycling it. Would I need a filter for this tank? Inhabitants: a few cherry shrimp ( when itās cycled)
IMO you don't really need a filter on that tank. It should be fine without it if you are just putting in some small shrimp.I actually didnāt think of that... I have a few diy mini filter recipes I could try.
Bacteria will colonise on any of the tanks surfaces, not just in the filter, so you can cycle a tank without a filter.means that you are colonizing the bacteria in your filter
No matter what size the species, you still need to have a filter. Clean water is a must for any healthy tank, no matter what size. And I still think that a 1 gallon tank is WAY to small for even a few Cherry Shrimp. But still, IMO.you don't really need a filter on that tank. I agree, the main reason why it is a good idea, is because it provides necessary water movement, essential for any tank. You can have a tank with no filter, but itās not recommend.
