I am getting some yes's and some no's from folks, I need more input... I would love to put this 4 ft 55 gallon tank on the top (not writing surface) of my Oak roll top desk. I realize this will be about 900 lbs when all is said and done, and the sides seem well supported, and it is an inch thick top board. I thought it would be OK since I just looked under my All Glass aquarium stand holding up my 45 gallon...and OMG, It is pine, and has No vertical shelf to hold up middle, and NO back, just sides and they seem to be notched to hole the top braces.....yikes.

Husband set the tank on stand, and I guess I just assumed if a tank person made it, it was fine, and got to the business of making it fish ready. NOW, I am thinking in terms of stands an noticing and it makes me nervous as heck. But I have never read on any group about a stand failure.... wierd. Whattaya think?

well how about you and 4 or 5 of your friends stand on the desk.
then you can see if it will hold...

i am only joking though...

It sounds strong enough. Just put some polystyrene sheets under the tank to even out any irregularities. Oh and of course, fill it up and leave it a few hours without fish to check for leaks and... collapse :p joking, should be fine.
