Will Adding A New Filter Change Things?

Hi guys
I have my wall mounted aquarium but i have noticed that having my filter at one end is creating a dead end at the other side. The filter end is clean and has flow while the further end has no current at all! The bottom of the further ens is covered in crap and i can see things floating about but not moving at all.

I have decided to put a spare filter at this dead end so that it creates some flow there and sucks all of the grot up! The problem is that the new filter makes a sort of buzzing popping noise and i cant stand it while im trying to sleep!

So to my question!

Will having the new filter on during the day but not during night cause instability in my tank? I wa swondering if it would cause a nitrate spike as the flow wouldnt be going through it all day yet it would be full of crap.

Any thoughts?

Hi adding the other filter sounds like a really good idea but you need to leave it on all the time as when you turn the filter off the bacteria dies and starts to rot so does more damage than good with it being on through the day.

Your best bet would be to get an other quieter filter or just a plain powerhead with no filter box attached. I use the fluval U series internals when I use internals and they are really quiet especially when you just put them below the water level so no air gets sucked in the intake

Ace, the tank is just short of 30 litres but 1.2metres long. Any idea of which one would be good? Will it be silent?

Oh one of those tanks, I see yeah something like a Fluval U1 or U2 would be good and they are very quiet

I have to say though I think your stocking needs looking at, those kind of tanks are not really suitable for your Rams, Dwarf Gourami and Bettas. In these kind of tanks you need to stick to small schooling fish like your whiteclouds and neons but because of the low capacity not ideal really for impact. In all honesty I would only keep one large school of something like neons of about 10 but if you swapped that for a smaller species of schooling fish like Chilli Rasbora or Galaxy Rasbora or Ember Tetras and keep them in a larger school of 15-18.
