Wild fish in local lake

um, why would you hook these fish you want to keep? if you have experience catching fish (i assume larger than these) you will know that even the smallest hook will cause damage to the mouth and if swallowed will most likely have horrible results on such a small fish (i.e. ripping its guts out)! gah!

Seeing that your not looking to steal the fish to do some pseudo scientific experiment or some freaky fetish stuff Id try tellin the truth. You saw them, they were pretty, you want to put one in your fish tank. I think that story would get you out of any trouble quicker than half the suggestions I've read here so far....

Although I gotta give credit to the members on creativity, lol.

And if all else fails... flirt your way out (damn that female sex appeal!)
I was going to do some weird freaky fetish thing with it.....But since you caught me, I guess I won't. ;)

Yea, flirting my way out always works. :p "Oh, I was catching one for you, handsome" ;)

well, i feel ok about eating wild caught fish, so i'm comfortable with keeping them too.
well I feel OK eating them too...but I don't let them sit alive in my cooler filled with water for days before doing so....

i don't see how eating a fish can be compared to taking it out of its natural habitat to live for X amount of days, week, months, years in an unnatural way

and nc_nutcase - I know you PMed me already and I didn't address your last post to me - you never condoned catching/keeping the fish, therefore i was not saying you should be ashamed - i was implying those who were arguing about the legality of taking stock needed to think about the morals of it...furthermore, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using theoretical examples (that aren't really theoretical because they HAPPEN) to justify a moral position - that's how things work...

and back to the post at hand - I want to see pics pf these fish too - preferably not in your fish tank!

P.S. mods please don't lock it, I will stop arguing now - I just feel bad for the fish :-(

I wouldn't catch them with a fishing pole. Maybe just put some bread in a soad bottle trap. Cut off the top to about the shoulder and flip it around, wedge it into the bottle, put some bait in it and wait for the fish to swim in. Then they'll have a harder time swimming out.

I will try bread and maybe some frozen bloodworm or mysis shrimp. Would that get them in there faster than bread? I will not be catching these creatures to put them in one of my aquariums. Only to research them further and decide whether I would want to keep them or not. If I would, then I'd find a way to get some eggs somewhere or buy them locally if possible.

I have no experience in killifish and have no spare tank to set up for them. Plus, I'd have to cycle the tank and I think it would take months for me to create the perfect environment for them.

we said philosophical... not theoretical :p

I'll be short as I don't want to feed an "argument" that is over.

I enjoy logical debates and often get a little picky about words I/others use. To point out numerous facts of why my opinion is less than ideal is more than welcome, it was the "you should be ashamed" comment that put me in my lil mood. Also it doesn't matter to me whether the comment was directed at me or others, I'll still take up the fight (you can call me Zoro from now on, lol).

I think your concern was extremely just and had it been presented just a lil differently I'm sure you would have found much more support and no confrontation.

Note to everyone else, abstract and I did exchange a PM or two and the entire exchange was peaceful and kind. He actually agreed to buy me dinner next time I'm in New York.
