Wild fish in local lake

As a pretty well good fisherman. It sounds to me like you could have seen some carp not (crap). Its a type of fish that will almost eat anything you throw in the water or maybe brim. If you see a big school of the little fish its most probially brim. Watch out though bass like to eat those little guys.
But they were so tiny, like 2 inches and had the body type of a killifish. I don't have a clue to what the little minnow-fish are, I just call them minnows. :p They eat anything I throw in the water. Even if you spit in the water they try to eat it.

The fish I saw are definately not a type of carp. Really skinny and sort of long body. Like the fish in BigC's sig. A body like that.

I have a big net, but those suckers are harder to catch than a neon tetra in a 120 gallon.

in some places its illegal to take fishes from lakes and ponds!
I think its only illegal if you get caught:)
Killing people is only illegal if you get caught too.
 chill, j0! odds are good that the lake in question isn't a habitat for any endangered species since its attached to an apartment complex and doesn't have any "Warning! Protected Habitat!" signs. its my impression that in the US, only endangered wild-caughts are illegal.

'sides, i think that comment was generally made just as a joke and not really an arguement. more of a "nudge, nudge, wink, wink", if you know what i mean. :sly:

actually the act is what is illegal... getting caught is the deliverance of the punishment... but... still...

It may not matter if the fish are endangered or if the habitat is protected. It might be a DNR issue and you may have to have a fishing license (I'm not kidding!).

i think if you are under 16, you dont need a license. thats how it is in california. from how you describe them, i would say you can catch one easily, you dont even need a rod. get some fishing line, get a small jig or hook and a skirt. throw it in the water, and pull it up. or you can make a trap out of a 2L coke bottle or something. laws are meant to be broken :D

Well I am not going to catch any yet. Just take pics of them. That isn't illegal is it? ;) :p
GO for it !!!!

This isn't the first time things have gotton outta control with one of your posts is it.People tend to go for a run on you -_-

If there are no signs, No one is looking and you plan to give them a good life, not do any strange breeding with them :alien: . Then I think you'll be cool . And if you were to get caught by the cops I'm sure the judge wouldn't send ya to the slammer. The fish market maybe but not jail .
and no I have no clue what they are

The point that I was making was to catch some of these fish place them on a damp piece of cotton (preferrably white in colour) and take a photograph,(so as the members in the forum could shed some light on their identification) then return the fish back to their natural habitat. You can usually obtain tank bred specimens once you know what they are. If they are killifish then they will no doubt be obtainable (fish or eggs through the AKA). The members original question was "Does anyone have any idea of what they are or what fish are native to lakes in central Florida?" Not the morality of wether these fish are on an endangered species list or is it legal or illegal to fish that particular body of water.

Well, my last guess is Florida Flagfish , Jordanela Floridae, or something, like that.

If you get caught, tell the officer, that your starving, and trying to catch the fish to eat.
If he's a kindley old guy ,( like me), You'll get to keep the fish, and you'll probably get a burger and fries to boot.
Ha Ha Just Kiddin. :D

If you did want to catch one, and someone complains, tell them you dropped your wallet in :) Or get someone to draw you while you pose with a fishing rod, then act suprised when you get a bite.

hey it's not our fault she's so pickable...
:sly: Hey! :p People do tend to pick on me. :dunno: Haha. Anyways, I will probably be going there later tonight, but like I said, I didn't see them at night usually they were out in the early morning. So I will wake up early and try to catch a few. If I get in trouble with the law, I'll just flirt my way out. :p I am 17, so I am not under the 16 rule thing lol. But I could be 16 for that day. ;)

Anyways, I will just tell them I am doing research on that type of fish. I'll make up some long latin name and pretend that I am smarter than him. ;)
