Why Would The Ph Drop In A Cycled Tank?

did my daily tests today and Tank 1 with the platy's, Cory's and Cardinals has had a PH drop to 6.6??? Why would it do this?
I am adding Protozin for whitespot, but its been a few days now and not done it before?

Why is it just me with the strange things happening that noone can explain why???

Tank 2 is STILL not cycled..and not even clearing 1.4ml of Nitrites...Ph 7.8..temp 30deg
one platy had white cottony growth on lip
then another had ich
then 3/4 had ich
then another platy got scales fall off his side
then 2 more lost scales
then ANOTHER platy has white fungus on his head
A platy went really lethargic on the bottom hardly breathing
then perked up.
now another platy has cotton growth on mouth
the Nitrate test when i add reagent smell like rotton eggs/peroxide (when it doesnt before)
and today the PH drops to 6.6?

Blimey, you really are going through it.

The Protozin has got to be the prime suspect, once you're through with it, and have used the carbon filter for 2-3 weeks, do a water change, and see what the pH is then. If it's gone back up, then that'll be the cause.

You've not put any more bogwood in the tank recently?

Your pH is dropping because your water has very little buffering ability. When was the last time you changed the water on Tank 1 (amount and frequency)? What are the nitrates? Of course, you also have the meds to contend with.


Once this is all finished, I would consider adding a LITTLE crushed coral in a bag to your filter to raise the kH and help stabilize the pH.


The smell for the nitrate test may be the result of the meds mixing with the reagent.

Your pH is dropping because your water has very little buffering ability. When was the last time you changed the water on Tank 1 (amount and frequency)? What are the nitrates? Of course, you also have the meds to contend with.

i did 50% on the 13th...90% on the 15th....50% on the 16th....90% on the 19th....80% on 21st (yest) and 60% today (after ph drop)...nitrates are between 1 and 5ppm
