Well I use String to attach Ricca and Java fern to rocks. All was fine for a few months till today I woke up and say a cory upside down and breathing face. I quickly noticed he had a string noose in his gill. It seemed to be in there quite deep and it was rather sat. I ended up cutting him free but he managed to pull a large section of string with him and it is still in his gills. I am so sad. I hope he lives long enough for him to come out at night so Zi can capture him and remove the string.

Why don't you capture him now and remove the string. The longer it sits in his gills the more problematic it will be.

I can't get him out in the open till it is dark out. They go into the wisteria and even if I rip it all out they stay in its tanged web. I turned off the lights and placed towels over it so he will come out.

cory cats shouldn't be nocternal... is there any fish that pick on them as they might be waiting till the other fish go to sleep before comming out into the open. and FYI corys sleep durring the night and do not feed.

I gotta seriously diagree with this, in the wild, they come in all varieties. Paxton (1997, "Shoaling and activity levels in Corydoras catfish", Journal of Fish Biology) described them as crepuscular, which is a fancy word meaning they are active at dusk and dawn. So, if you just turn the lights off and on, immediately turning the lights off would be as close to dusk as possible. If you search the web via Google, there are manyu sources that call many different species of Corydoras nocturnal.

They eat both during the day and the night ^-^ However at night they are out and about and when the lights suddenly come on they don't run away into the bushes. thus I can look at them a bit for a check up or catch this poor little guy. where as during the day if I am in the room moving they will run and hide real fast.

y cories also hide when i come near the tanks

they come out to eat though, but they'll hide as soon as i move. if i stay still for 10 minutes or so, they'll come out even if i'm there! so i wouldn't call them nocturnal, but i do see them roaming around the clock
