does the filter floss on the outside of the filter have the same function as sponges?
You use both, the floss catches the finer particles and is changed more frequently (it is less robust when washed). I suggested it because the water has a lot of debris.

Let's clarify something...ich cysts on the fish do not move, I think what was meant was that spots will be visible for a day or two, and this can occur regularly. So from day to day it may seem one or two spots are in different places, but they will be different spots (cysts).

As I said previously, healthy non-stressed fish can deal with this--if they couldn't, ich would have long ago wiped out all fish.

thanks, what does carbon do in the filter?

after water change and filter clean, the debris is all clear now :)
the photos i took were during the time where i disturbed the giant algae blob to suck debris out of it

Carbon chemically removes impurities and is rarely needed. You might use it to remove medications or if a problem in the tank has caused malodour.

Glad the water is clear now :) 🏆

I see, but i am pretty sure that the malodour in my tank is from the water lettuce lol...

I will leave it for now, since it still has the bacteria that is needed

Leave the carbon, don't bother to replace it; or at some point get rid of it and use more media like foam/sponge. Carbon should not be necessary, especially in planted tanks because when still active it will remove plant nutrients like dissolved organic carbon.

If its ick then the spots won't stay in the same place. They will move and maybe even disappear.
Water changes--providing the parameters are the same, which means GH, pH and temperature--will not do any harm, but don't go overboard. Clean the filter as needed.
hello, heres an update:
the female has got rid of all symptoms, but it seems that the male has one spot of it now.
the female spends most of its time following the male around
