White Spot - Opinions Urgently Needed!

In my OP, Salt on Whitespot is a waste of time. It can take many days to work, if it does work. I use the same medicine everytime whitespot breaksout( which is NEVER). I use CopperSafe, the parasite dissappears in 2 days. I dont belive Loaches are very tolerant of the drugs , but it sure does a fine job. I havent had whitespot in the last year.

Well salt treatment in my 110G tank worked a treat on the CLown loaches i have. Yes it takes a while because the doseage has to be halved but saves adding meds to your tank, and if you have the patients then in my view its a great safe treatment. Not knocking med based treatments infact i have some in my cupboard as a backup for my community tank.

Well, i tried salt before, and it took FOREVER to cure, and the parasite had killed almost everything off by then. Plus i was always worrying about the salt being to much for my tetra's ect.

like i said it comes down to your stocking and your own opinions etc etc. If its early stages then salt can and does work but if its set in the meds may well be the only way.

each to their own as they say.

I have only had to treat for it once in the last 5 years. The salt did the trick as far as symptoms in about 2 days and the treatment did continue another week. No outbreaks in the last couple of years but some of my fish go through quite a bit of stress. When the parasite is not present, you don't get it on your fish.
Temperature should be taken to 30C if your fish can tolerate it that high. It will speed the parasite's life cycle and get it to the point that the medication can actually function, the free swimming phase, that much faster. No medication works directly on a parasite living on a fish, it acts when the parasite is in the water looking for a new host.

just to say - the fish seem to be good :)

no white spots present now!

im doing a waterchange tonight then treating again (2nd part of it) im continuing with it just to be on the safe side :)
