Hi all,

Recently I've noticed a white indent has formed on the top of my Betta that wasn't there previously. At first I thought it was ick, but this seems like a scratch or wound of some sort. The Betta has been acting completely normal however and nothing seems to be wrong with the other fish in the aquarium. Could someone please help me diagnose this and give me a solution? I've tried to take a few photos.

Thanks in advance

I think he may be missing a scale. Your bettas fins look a little clamped too.
How big is your aquarium? What are your water parameters? How many fish do you have in there? I can see at least two plecos, maybe three, which seems like a lot. You also have guppies in there which should not be kept with bettas.

I do have quite a few Pleco in there, as well as some guppies, a female betta, and an angelfish. Do you think I need to separate them? I was hesitant to put them together, but I didn't have another tank when it was given to me. Fortunately, it seems this betta has a very docile nature so there hasn't been any fighting at all. All the fish are behaving perfectly normally, there hasn't even been any fighting between the make and female Bettas, so I assumed everything was ok

How big is your aquarium? You have some major stocking issues.
First, you only need one pleco. They have very big bioloads, so you should only have one. But, depending on the size of your tank, you may need to rehome all of them.
Rehome the Angelfish right away. They should not be kept with bettas.
Female and male bettas should not be kept in the same aquarium. Either get a second tank, or rehome one of them.
And, like a said, guppies and bettas should not be kept in the same tank. Guppies need hard water and bettas need soft water.
What is the GH and KH of your water? Also, what are your water parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, ph)?

Ok, thank you. I'll make those changes asap. I'm not sure what the GH and KH are. I don't have the equipment to test it.

No need to test it, if you're using tapwater, go to your water authorities website and look for their water quality report. Tell us the numbers and include the unit of measurement. Your tank gH and kH will be the same as your source.
