White Puffy Stuff On Mopani Wood

Hi, just found this thread on google and wanted to ask a question. I was just wondering if this stuff can actually eat the wood? I have some white mould on some Sumatran Redwood I bought and there's also a dusting of either wood or lava rock on the bottom of my tank (which is bare as it's being cycled so the dust is clearly visible). It's a shame I can't say it's definitely one or the other but I thought I'd ask the question just in case. As I'm fishless cycling, I can't add anything to eat it. I've had it out and power-shower washed it once but I haven't boiled it or baked it. Thanks in advance :)

No, it can't eat the wood; it's just feeding on traces of nutrients leaching from the wood. Once the nutrients are gone the fungus will go too; it usually takes only a few weeks :good:

Thanks, that's good to hear. The wood just looks in worse condition than it did before. All patchy and flakey, so I wanted to check. It must just be gradually changing colour.
