White Mouth Growth

Update:

Sulta proven totally ineffective I've switched to Acriflavine (thanks to The_wolf for the instructions).

There seems to be an improvement after two days -- not fully cleared, but the amount of fungus has been reduced. We'll see how it goes, it will be at least 10 days of treatment, but just maybe this will work.
(With this infection, unfortunately even fully clearing the bacterial growth still may bring it back days or weeks later.)

A related question: I can now see some mouth damage. Anything I can do to try to promote healing if the treatment works? Melafix?

Do you mean the mouth looks like its rotting.

Mikev to be honest I think it time just to let the fish go.
Its been through enough.

Fish -- and it is not one but several -- are still very active. If I saw them losing interest in life, I'd have let them go.
But this is nearly the last attempt, I'm almost out of options. (the only one really left is high-salinity water).

The chances are that its only the meds that keeping them alive, and once there off them they go down hill again.
I had to watch my mum die of cancer and it was only the treatment that gave her a few more months to live, once they stopped it really kicked in, hope you know what I mean.
Good luck.

I know what you mean exactly.---and sorry for your mom.

I still want to fight this out, the fish looks like they want to live.

Ok I wish you all the luck.
One of my black neon tetras has mouth fungus haven't had columnaris in years, never rains but pours.

Thank you!
(seems like I'm stalled: the fungus decreased but not gone yet)

After fighting this thing for months, and reading a lot of recommendations, one thing is clear: give it a 30min bath in dark-blue Meth Blue. In early stages, it should wipe out the bacteria from the fish and may be all you need to do. Good luck.

Slung the meth blue away and I could of given him a bath.

Not sure what you mean exactly.

If you don't have / cannot get meth blue, you can also try bath in something like a "disease dip", or salt water, or _probably_ acriflavine. Or just isolate the fish, what you don't want is this spreading to others. (This is what happened here).

May your luck be better than mine.

Going to do a salt bath but black neons are fast swimmers, tryed once to catch him.

Yeap, I know the problem. At least you can put a neon into a q-tank, these Giant Danios are not suitable even for a short stay in 10g.

Update from me:

I no longer understand where I stand. The obvious growths dissappeared over the fish two days, but some of the fish seem to have a little white on the tip of the mouth *when I look at the side*; but when they face me directly, no white color seen. Either they still have the bacteria OR it is lose skin, and I just cannot see clearly.

I'll continue treatment for now, at least it is not getting worse.... but I'm actually thinking about giving them a salt (or meth Blue) 30 min bath just to see if the color changes.

He died had to do the awful deed his mouth was a mess. R.I.P.

Sorry to hear this.

I lost two barbs this way a year ago...at that time I had no idea how to treat, and the disease was too fast for me to learn...
