Which External Filter For 80Gallon?

Just wondering what would be the best external filter to use on an 80gallon discus tank.

Would a eheim 2217 be alright?
Or would this be too strong for the discus?

I would imagine a std FX5 would be too strong too strong a current, although if you can alter the outlet into a spray bar then this would work. My FX5 works a treat, but then its in a 180 gallon tank.

Eheim is my fave brand, 2217 spare parts are widely available, even though the clasic range was started 20+ years back, its probably the most reliable filter out there imo.

I'm considering getting a new external for my 85gal to replace my 405. How is the FX5? It keeps ticking all the boxes so far. I NEED a filter that will connect to my pipes under the tank as I have a fluval tank, i think a fluval filter will only do this.

Any reliability issues with the fx5? Any drawbacks?

You can always change the pipework, but tbh, i have found brand have been interchangeable.

i dont think its as easy as that...i have corrigated pipe which is clamped on to the pipes under the tank. so i'd assume the same pipe would have to be used without making life difficult for myself. i hear the ehiems have a lot of leakage problems anyway....
