tetra-man2 he ment cheery barbs would be ok with guppies, i was just saying that most barbs don't work with guppies.

:good:

o rite lol, iv got a 7 gallon up and cycling, any suggestons wat to put in it?

your sig says 6g? what you after community ? didn't you already do a whole topic thing on this before and then started a tank with fish then changed and now changing again?

how about 6 adf's? male betta? a few female betta (4 duno if they'd all be ok in the size tank but they need at least to be in a 4)?

:good:

no its about 6 n half, and its cycling with danios (will take em out)...

that sounds a good set-up...... :/
was hopng for a community,
the lfs said this wud be ok:

- 4 head and tail light tetras
- 1 otto
- 1 Honey gourami (or 2 guppys)

ps: was really after community

i'd go with 5 h&t lights and 3 otto's duno if they could all get in there?

h & t lights sometimes nip guppies i believe.....

otto's like 3's aswel

:good:

ottos can be kept on own, loads pf people do it, there was a post on er about a month ago about it.

so im now thinking:

- 1 otto - 1.5 inches
- 4 Head and tail lights - 6 inches
- then something else...

lol, no that wud just be boring! having lots of head and tail lights!

I love my big community tank, and the vast majority are groups of 6 or more Tetras of various colors and sizes: Tiny little green neons to 3.5-4" emperors. I like them because they are easy to keep and colorful and active.

But I also have a school of 6 or 7 pepper Cories, several colonies of dwarf cichlids, ADF, C. apple snails, sparkling and honey gouramis, three types of loaches/botia, a short finned Betta (Waldo), 1 Beckfordi pencil fish. (I have tried three times to keep a school of them, but they are a bit hard to keep apparently), and scarlet badis badis. I think that's it--Oh! a couple of pigmy cories--survivors. All these share a 100 usg. I would love to increase the community to 180 usg. So many delightful and interesting fish and so little room.

I have a school of harlequin and pork chop rasaboras, but I can't put them in for now. The tank is stocked for the moment. So the rasaboras are sharing with the emerald Cories (not true Cories.)

A seven gallon would be good for a school of Cories, who are incredibly hardy, and some are easy to breed, and full of personality.

Other than them a good starter fish is a school of small Tetras. They are a good starter community fish, I think.

Mind you they are not my favorite fish; I love them all. But they are a good base stock.

yeah theyre good base stock, but you need those personality fish like corys!

Oto's are super sensitive.

difference is jollysue, tetra-man2 is working wiht a 6 ukg whereas you ahve a 100usg, so he's a little more limited on choices than you lol.

honslety i wouldn't keep cories in a 6g not enough room for them in my opinion.

:good:

I would not start with otos. They need a mature tank with algae, especially green bogwood algae. It takes awhile to develop a good oto home, and they can be difficult to keep for many--me included. I have gone through several communities of otos. The least thing seems to upset them. I have stopped trying for the moment.

Get a magnetic tank cleaner.

I gather he is starting a community in a 6-7 UK gal. That seems plenty big enough for one of the smaller Cories. A 10 usg is big enough for a school of six or more Cories. The San Juan is small, the panda (a little delicate), the skunk. In addition Cories will gulp air. The main issue for Cories is a clean tank. Even so they are very hardy.

The one caveat with Cories is that I wouldn't use gravel with them. They need something to hide together in or under and prefer sand. They will "plow" the sand with their barbells and are great dancers. Their breeding dance is a delight of energy. They very well know you and are able to develop a relationship with the hobbiest. They don't nipas the Tetras do.

I surely didn't mean that he should try to stock his started tank with a 100 usg of fish. :S It was just an example of the community fish variety that can live well together.
