I am looking at this thread for the first time and am fascinated by the responses. I tend to agree with ac700wildcat that measuring the effect of a cycled filter on a particular dose of ammonia is a better way to investigate what is going on than to follow the suggestion by ac700wildcat to determine the exchange rate of an AOB by using the build of ammonia with no AOB present. It is not that the resulting data will be a better indicator of what is going on, it is merely a personal preference. I admit that I am prejudiced to preserve the fish and worry about the science and chemistry second. It is not a subject that has any real justification in my mind, but it is still a deeply felt prejudice nonetheless. I am not a scientist after all, I am just a fish keeper who loves his fish.
