What Your Favorite Fish...

Used to be small home-caught cod, in the days when you could eat cod with a good conscience. Now it's mackerel, freshly caught and fried with dill. Pike is very good with horseradish and butter- but it must be 30 years since I last had that.

Lake perch or whitefish are a couple of my favorites. I nearly always have a jar of pickled herring in the fridge, it's a great snack.

I eat most fish, although I'm not a fan of salmon or tuna steaks. I love swordfish provided it's not overcooked (read, rubbery), mackerel too but I can't be doing with all the bones, anything smoked is nice too.

In Goa I had King Fish fresh out of the sea, gorgeous with a curry sauce. At home in the UK I love plaice.

I saw something on I think it was Salmon. They were saying that they are having way higher mercury levels then usual and some people actually where getting sick becuase if it. Anyways they also said that cultures who eat alot of it also drink tea which gets rid of the mercury levels.

I live on the boston area coast, so I have a ton of fish here. I go fishing on my grandfather's boat and catch bluefish to eat. Lots of people say it's very strong, but when they try the fish we caught they say it's great. I caught a flounder once, but you cant get too much meat off of them because there isn't any meat on their flat side. Although my grandparents' summer house is on Cape Cod, they're very rare. You can still buy cod fillets at stores, though. I must say that I love all of the seafood here.

I love grilled salmon, and salmon sushi. I also really like freshwater eel (sushi), fried catfish, and tuna steaks aren't bad either.

Cooked, pro'bly fresh caught filleted bluegill, fried in a white flour, egg, & milk batter. Failing that, flounder in Brown Butter sauce or Plain Grilled Swordfish.

Marinaded - Mackerel (Saba)

Raw - Bluefin Tuna Belly (Cho-Toro)

Mercury: All fish have some level of mercury - the farther up the food chain, the more concentrated it is. So Shark, Tuna, and Swordfish have a pretty high level, flounder and catfish, pretty low.
