What Would You Do With A Spare 5.5gal Tank

In which case you need your head examining.

2.5 gallons is not only a far too small amount to keep a betta in permanently, you have a 5.5 gallon tank which IS the correct minimum amount. Why on earth would you try to cram a betta into an unsuitable amount when you have a decent suitable tank which is perfect for a bettas minimum needs?

2.5 gals will be more of a faff to look after since a decent flter and heater to fit it will take up a good bit of the already too small space, and the water parameters will be even more difficult to keep stable because you have a lot less water to work with. Even with a filter you'd be needing to do large water changes every 3 days or so . You'd be making a lot more work for yourself and keeping a fish in what is effectively a puddle in a box.

on my computer table.

A betta is a fish like any other, not a desk ornament. Would you keep a dwarf or honey gourami in 2.5 gallons?

Actually I'm kind of glad it came to this. I myself was debating whether 2.5gal was enough or not as there seems to be quite a bit of controversy amongst people. I was actually looking at some 2.5gal tanks on youtube trying to figure out whether a betta would have enough room there. I still haven't decided; thought I'll go and check the tank at the LFS and see.

And to you Honeythorn, I understand your concern but
firstly, I didn't even get a 2.5 tank yet.
Secondly, please don't assume. Just because I said I'd keep the tank on the computer table doesn't mean it's an ornament. I'd never consider fish to be an ornament. The reason I said computer table was because I wanted to put a fish tank there (mind you that my other 5.5 is on my worktable desk itself covering half of it. Unfortunately a 5.5 is a little too big to put on the computer table. That's what I thought may be a 2.5, but I wouldn't do that if it was too small for this fish). I know that all beings have their own intrinsic value, which I acknowledge.
I no longer wish to explain myself regarding this. ^_^

As to the 5.5gal, killifish sounds good as well as scarlet badis(haven't seen any in my LFS though). I'm not familiar with them but some google images showed some nice fish. A nice high tech planted with some bright shrimp and one of these fish would do. I'll look into that some more and check whether my LFS carries them.
If not, may be I'll leave this tank empty in case I need an extra tank in an emergency. This has been useful to temporarily house my 29gal inhabitants for short periods of time while I did some mods to it. I originally brought this tank to grow brine shrimp to try and wean the two bangaii cardinals into frozen food.
Thanks for all the ideas guys. :good:
