What Water Pump For My Fishroom

Currently i use a Eheim Compact Pump 1000 to do my water changes. But i am finding its too slow at moving water about any distance. i fill buckets in my bathroom and use garden hose to pump it into my tanks. I do the opposite for emptying the tanks.

So i need to upgrade. But while looking at that, i may swell get it for use in my fishroom.

I am going to need to pump the water from ground level (where i'll have a storage tank) up to 2.4m i think. It will be a vertical column of water. Once at the 2.4m level, it will flow down through a network of pipes, filling each tank as it goes.

So, what pump will give me this amount of power to raise the water 2.4m?

You need something with some oomph behind it to get a good flow at a good head. Central heating pumps can do that, but I'm guessing you don't want the metals in your water. Otherwise you're probably looking at small pool pumps if you want any serious flow. A lot of them, when you get to that category, will actually tell you how much flow you can expect at various heads of water.

the larger ones say they have a max head of 3m - i gather that means they are capable of pushing the water above this level?

It means that they can't push water any higher than 3m. You'll see a flow drop as you get nearer to it. The pump will also wear out faster the nearer you push it to the maximum.
