for 5gal, I would only be looking at a Betta fish or using it as a nice shrimp tank.
I think that just shrimp - maybe a variety of breeds - would be nice as a second tank, but judging from your post I guess that this is your first tropical tank and you would want something more interesting. I would recommend zebra danios but i think the tank would be a bit small. A betta splendens would be great, and yes a few shrimp would also probably look nice.

wow that bettaboys site has some brilliant fish! where are they based? what would you say is better? halfmoon or crowntail...i can't decide lol..

look how nice this one looks! http://bettaboys.co.uk/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=36&product_id=202

pricey tho :/ esp when you add in the delivery charge..anyone know of a place near sheffield that sells them?..

shrimp look abit alien to me..but i'd throw some in if the betta will not kill it...

another Q..do betta jump out of their tanks??

crap. well looks like i'll have to order one of those lights that have suction pads. arrgh wanted a clip on one but oh well..

next Q..sand or Gravel?..wanna have a few plants in there..do they survive in just gravel or sand?

just bought some black gravel..

which plants are better for a betta?

I have duckweed anacharis hornwort and poppy with my Betta and he loves hiding in the hornwort and chilling out on the pads of the poppy so I would recommend they plants that I listed

is this what you're talking about?

Sand is better for a betta's fins, but gravel works just as well :good:

I'd personally go for one from here or here! Even though they're more expensive, the quality is better so they're less prone to fin rot...and prettier! But don't forget, the ones they sell are usually young, so they'll last you a while, too!

im tempted to buy one from there...going to pop into the next town to see if a pet shop there that sells them has the sort of betta i'm after..if not then i think BettaBoys will be my choice..they have the one i want!!! :D
