What To Do Over Vacation?

I have a 10 gallon tank in my dorm room and I planned to leave it there while I go home for Thanksgiving Break. I bought one of those pyramid fish feeders that are supposed to dissolve and feed your fish while you are away. Well I dropped it in the tank 6 hours ago and its not dissolving. It fizzed a little when I first dropped it in but that's it. I'll be gone for about 4 days. Will the fish be able to survive that long without eating? I don't want to return to find a disaster.

Yep, no worries what so ever. 4 days would be pretty easy for your fish to go without food. Better solution than the automatic feeder.

Four days isn't a problem. I'm sure you have no large fish in the 10G that would eat other tank mates.

Correct... leaving the tank and not feeding them will be fine. Just don't overfeed them in advance of leaving either! That is a common mistake, but it can actually lead to more problems than it solves. Just feed normally, and when you return, feed normally.


Have you considered what you are going to do for Christmas Break? That is a much bigger issue. They won't be ok being left alone for up to 4 weeks.

All of the fish are the same size so yeah, I don't think they would eat each other. Over Christmas break, I'm going to have to take them home with me. The dorm makes us unplug everything so them being without a heater or filter for three weeks isn't acceptable. Hopefully, they'll be fine this weekend. Thanks.
