What Should I Put In An Empty 5 Gallon

So guys do you think a bala shark would be ok in a 5 gallon tank?

Actually i was interested in getting a bunch of cherry shrimp
and maybe a trio of honey or sparking/croaking gouramis (cuz they wont eat the shrimplets supposedly)
do you think that would be ok?

Probably not the honeys but I sure that sparkling qourami would be fine.

you'll have to know what to do with all the shrimp though.

I have a 5.5 gallon that I am making into a cherry , crs, and some other kind of shrimp breedery. Right now I am growing HC emersed in it. It should give me a great carpet that the shrimps will love. I highly recomend doing it for a shrimp tank. And you could always sell the baby shrimp to your lfs. That's what I plan on doing.

I don't know about the gouramis because I've never had sparkling ones. I'd go with a nice, super-planted tank with shrimp.

I recently had two sparkling gouramis (I think, they might have been threelined) in a tank with cherry shrimp, and it was bad. The gouramis would even attack adult shrimp - they couldn't kill them from what I saw, but they did scare them enough they seldom left the Java Moss.

It's funny, because dwarf puffers are supposed to be worse with cherry shrimp, but I've consistantly had a small population (admittedly almost colorless) living with my pair and never had an issue.

If I were you I'd look for a pair of Scarlet Badis though. My personal fav mini "hover-fish"

I'd go with a half-dozen Choprae, Galaxy Rasbora, or Chela with a lot of plants and see if they'll breed.

I guess i really only wanted fish cause it felt like they should be there, but we'll see how the shrimp go first

Fishaholic- i was looking at making a carpet out of riccia or something similar, do you have a substrate as well as the carpet? and what is HC =P?
Chibi - i know, i used to look down on shrimp but now i'm excited
Eschaton - i have a dwarf puffer too, and i actually think i saw him run from shrimp the other day (i have 2 ghost and 2 amano with him). I guess the sparkling gouramis are out then
Eyebiter - i've only heard of the galaxy rasboras, will those 1/2 dozen fish really be ok in a 5 gallon? well i know that the rasboras are tiny.

You would put some kind of substrate under it. HC is a plant used to make beautiful carpets.
