What Pump Do I Need For My Return From My Sump Like Lph

its for a tropical tank the main tank is

525 us gallons

and has three 2 inch down pipes

and the sump is 205 us gallons

so what lph does my pump need ive asked before but want to get this right for sure

well i would say turn over of 3x? so your looking at pond pumps. go for oase or fishmate, come to where i work i will get you a gooden special price

haha sussex is awesome! i would go with 4x. so 8000 liters i think that roughly 100 pounds to 150 depending on brand. you know i could always buy one for you post it and you send me the money i can get 40% off.

You want at least 5x turn over in one hour. At the very least.

Any less then that and you may run into problems.

so if i went with 15000lph it would give me 6.5 turn over but will the return pumps take it

if you have plants you only need a 2-3x turnover, but you probably arent planting it, unless you want to spend rediculous amount of money.

Actually for plants you want A LOT more than 2-3x turn over! More like 10x+ turn over! There are very well known members on here that have near 20x turn over, because their tank is planted!

The reason why you want a high turn over rate with planted tanks is because you want the plants to be getting a constant flow nutriments/fertilizers. With a low flow rate, the plants would be derived of nutrients. With a higher turn over rate, the nutrients is going to flow throughout the tank a lot more, get into a lot more posts in the tank with the high flow the nutrients are allowed to spread out evenly throughout the entire tank, rather that just "spot" up in various spots within the tank.

So, with a planted tank, a minimum of a 10x turn over rate/hour should be achieved!

thats not what the main website of this forum says, and i only have a 2x turnover but i will be getting another filter which will bump it up to 5x turnover, but my plants are doing great, and are sprouting new leaves/stems all the time, plus plants use nitrates which makes it so you dont have to do AS big a water change every week.
