What Other Fish Should I Get?

Hi all,

In my 180 Liter tank i will have 12 x Neon Tetra's, 6 x Black neon Tetra's, 6 x Peppered Cory's and 3 x Zebra Danio's but am looking at adding a few show piece fish, i want something that is pretty and with a good character, what do you suggest and how many could i get?

The tank is lightly planted with lots of Black granite hiding places and also has some bogwood in it.

I would probs go cichlids or gourami. What colour and size were you thinking?

Just looking for Brightly colored to contrast the Black Sand i will have in the tank, Want them larger than the other fish i have so maybe i will go for the chichlids, What ones would you recommend, Maybe looking at some kind of red coloring.

Cant really go too big with cichlids as otherwise your neons will be eaten. But how about an orange thick lipped gourami? A trio of Apsiogramma Cacatuoides 1 male 2 female would be nice as well, aka Cockatoo cichlid. Males get to about 3 inches females smaller. In the 180 you could go for both

This is a nice cichlid but i don't know much about cichlids so you will have to wait for someone to say whether this is a good 1 or not.

What pH is your tank, that will be a factor too from memory the cockatoo likes a lower acidic pH I think (6-7?), others will differ too.
If you can find a fish which likes your tanks current pH then you've got no worries

I personally think your tank could take a medium sized cichlid or two, but it's worth cataloguing your tank on http/aqadvisor.com to see what your capacity really is. There are quite a few <5" cichlids that you could go for with varying aggression, IMO if you get the fish young you're in with a better chance of them getting along in a community tank long term.

I have a 125L with 4 male cichlids, 4 cory, 1 BN plec and 3 oto currently, all doing fine. The biggest fish is the firemouth who is about 4" now. I did have danios until about a month back which got on fine with them all too. They are all moving into a bigger tank next month, 75-100g - in the planning stages

The fish i will have at first is now

6 x Peppered cory's
12 x Neon Tetra's
6 x Black Neon Tetra's
6 x Cherry Barbs (only have 1 at the moment and they need to schoal)
6 x Zebra Danio's (only have 2 at the moment and these also need to schoal)

It is saying i am only 15% Stocked? this seems really low, Also how much attention should i pay to the filtration capacity which is only at 84% and is suggesting more filtration even before adding more fish.

Nope apparently your stocking level is 76% by that site with them in.

Looks like you may have put the wrong quantities in, 15% is waaaay too low

I would be a little concerned if the filtration was rated < 100. What filter have you got? What are it's specs?

Hi, I have a Juwel Rio 180 with "Bio Compact filter including pump set 600 and filter media"

Is this not a good pump? you would think that they would supply a 180 liter tank with a suitable tank to stock it, Although at the moment i am running my old Interpret PF1 fully cycled pump along side the juwel one but will eventually want to remove it.
