What Other "centerpieces" Would Work?

Carlove1 - why do you need a website to tell you what tank size is OK to put these fish in, when you have advice from 'real' keepers on this forum?
Common sense - maybe it isn't that common? - dictates that a fast swimming, largish schooling fish like the Bosemani, would need at LEAST a 4ft tank. To see these fish at their best they need a fairly long tank to give maximum swimming room.

At the end of the day no one can stop you going out and getting these fish and putting them in a tank that is too small, however you are in no position to advise other people on what to put in their tanks, as you obviously have no clue yourself

Fish keeping isn't just about picking a fish you like and buying it because you can. As with any pet you need to make sure you can house it and care for it adequately, or else you should not get them.

AHHH! MY THREAD WAS HIJACKED! Rainbows are a no. As great as they are, I feel like they'd hate my water (Even my local pet store's display tank can't get decent colour out of Boesmani rainbows (they always look ill!).

I -Still- need a centerpiece.

My problem is I'm really picky. I like my colour. And I don't care if my centerpiece is a group of fish, or a solitary fish, or a pair or trio or whatever, as long as it is:
a) some kind of FISH
b) a colour that will stand out.
c) a colour that is not red or brown.

I googled the rainbow cichlid. Am I correct in thinking that it'd be a reddish-orange colour?. It would be perfect for everything EXCEPT that. My serpaes are red. My loaches are brown. My ABF's are brown. I want something that isn't brown or red, so that it'll stand out. Colour seems like a stupid thing to be concerned about, but I'm the one who gets to look at this tank, and I want pretty colours .

Apistos are great, but impossible to find. And I won't have fish shipped to me unless I get them within 12 hours. It was 40C today with the humidity and FAR too hot to ship fish. I feel bad bringing them home from a store an hour away. Without arrive-alive guarantees, I won't ship them, and next-day shipping is going to cost me 3x what I pay for the fish.

I didn't realize finding a centerpiece would be so difficult!

If you lucky enough in America, Killifish are amongst the most colourful

Seems that angels hate my water. 2 disappeared and 2 died, in less than a week. The 2 remaining aren't seeming to be doing too well in the tank. I don't know what to do!. I had my heart set on angelfish, and I'm a little heartbroken now that I've got them and can't keep them alive.

The tank stocking is:
12 serpae tetras
3 african butterflyfish
4 (soon 6) yoyo loaches.

The tank is a 46 gallon bow-front, low-light, low-tech planted tank. Tank dimensions are: 36"L by 20"H by 16.25"W.

I want a colourful and fair-sized centerpiece in the tank.
Any suggestions on something that would work in this stocking?

There is now ONE remaining angel of the original six purchased on Thursday. I think I might just see if the store will take the three bodies I have as "credit" towards another fish. Because Angels don't seem to be working in my tank.

Would Bolivian Rams be okay in my crazy high pH? (8-8.2). I was under the impression that they needed 6.5 to 7.5.

I cannot comment on the Rams, I never really considered them because of my tap water pH very similar to yours (8.2), with kH 11 and gH 13...

But I can point you in the direction of a cichlid that will love that water... Steatocranus cichlids (most common one are Lionheads, but there are a number of other species). Granted, they aren't colourful, but they have a great oddball behavior

My pH has been between 8.0 and 8.2 (i think the difference may be due to my own errors, not changes in water) and stable for well over a year.

I looked at the Bolivian Rams last time I was in the pet store (when I bought my ABF) and I thought about it... and then decided against it because I didn't know if they'd like my water.

I have very hard water and keep Rams. Sometimes they aren't as colourful, but they are happy. The main thing with any fish is a stable pH, if that is the case most fish will adapt to any pH.

Oh yeah, they are. I think my new addition of a background on my tank has helped. My adult male is very colourful, but my newer lady isn't as much, though I think this is to do with her age more than anything.

I'd go for it, they are wonderful little fish

How many?
A pair? Trio?.

Is a pair as simple as grabing a male and a female and putting them together? or are they picky?

Well, you can't guarantee a pair even if you get a male and female. They can be a little nippy to each other, but this is normally just them deciding who is boss, then they settle down.
I've had two males before who lived together fine, though one was more dominant, a lone male who again was fine and now I have a male and female (I think!) who are fine after the male initially chasing her a bit.
You could go for three if you want, but if a pair did form they may make the lone one miserable. Maybe better to get 1, 2 or 4.
