Hey there!
I'm only 20 but I've done a lot of travelling around the world due to circumstances involving my father. I've been to various countries but as this board is full of members from various nations I thought it would be interesting to find out what people have found to be the weirdest or oddest place they've been to for whatever reason. Perhaps if you want the favourite.
Remember it doesn't even have to be abroad, one of my favourite places out of everywhere I've been is literally only a secluded spot a mile away from my home.
So I'll start,
The oddest place and buildup will probably have been a town called Kikinda, Serbia. We had illegally hired a taxi driver for 50 euros to take us across the border as our car insurance didn't cover for Serbia. The car was a Opel Kadett which didn't even having seats that fit properly, the seatbelts were so dusty but the clips were polished brand new like never been used before! The car had gone round the clock twice and I asked the driver when he bought it, apparently it only it got it last week! The driver insisted it was a lovely place but each house we went past there was varying security more and more shutters until houses were a complete blackout yet there were BMW X5s etc sitting on the driveways. Apparently it was a predominately mafia ruled area, then we crossed a bridge which apparently had nearly fallen down last year but they decided it was safe for some reason! The car was in such bad condition that when the driver stopped to get out and buy cigarettes he didn't even have to apply the handbrake on a hill, he got out in neutral and walked out to the shop, it was very steep
Arrived at the town we were going to and went for a beer, first thing I noticed on receiving some change from the barman was the fact the face on the money actually looked like Osama Bin Laden, I was gob smacked. However the people were fantastic, everyone welcomed you with 3 kisses and because I was British I was told I spoke like a BBC news presenter, they always talked and acted as if we were somewhat like brothers from another nation. It was a fantastic experience, I didn't feel safe at all in the area but the people made the place fantastic. I quickly found out the main diet and what appears to be the only diet was meat, pure meat and beer... my kind of place.
How has your most memorable trip/experience been?
