What Language Are Scientific Names

I have Brevior saltare cum deformibus mulieribus est vita engraved on the back of my itouch.

To save you all the trouble;
Life is too short to dance with ugly women

an example:
mikrogeophagus ramirezi the 'mikro' standing for mini- and the 'geophagus' standing for earth eater

latin names are always spelt in lower case, in italics

The genus is a capital, species is lower case
so
Mikrogeophagus ramirezi
is the correct expression.

If it ends in i this means it's in honour of someone.
May be the person who discovered it, or a scientist that described it.
