I bought a snail at my lfs back in october/november range. It had babies,, i kept 4 babies plus original. This is a picture of one of the babies, now almost as big as the original.. any idea what kind of snail it is?

You said it had babies. Did it lay eggs (above the water line) or did give live birth? Also how long did you have the original snail before it reproduced? Was there only one to begin with?

yes there was only one.. it layed eggs on the bottom of the hood to my old tank it was in and they were tiny red ball like eggs. I had it about a month maybe... it was the biggest snail he had so it was probably there for a bit before i bought it

Yes it is most likely an apple snail. Apple snails are gonochoristic (seperated sexes) and takes a male and a female to reproduce. With that note it is also true that female Apple snails can hold sperm for a few months at a time. Apple snails do lay there eggs above the water line and look like little pink sacs. With that said I would suggest, if you don't want anymore, keep the tank full to the top.

Thanks for the great response puff... and i have been checking the tank VERY closely to avoid another egg laying as there is a massive amount of eggs when it happens... now my original egglayer is so dark shes almost black and as very little noticable markings... shes also getting what looks like chips off her shell which is large now... any reason?
