Don't over think this, just adjust your light. I personally hate sand as a substrate in freshwater tanks

Doesn't matter, I had to get sand for the cories. Also, if I do more lighting, I'll have more algae growth.

I don't like that line " you had to get sand for the cory's". But I am not willing to argue the point.
