What kind of algae is this?

I have a slightly planted tank I guess. It has high lighting, sand substrate, java ferns and this weird brown algae that makes a I guess hard layer of sand. Also the guppies like to eat it.

Diatoms, I've got it growing in my teng like crazy...

+1 to diatoms.

I've got the same thing going on in one of my tanks. Other one is fine though, crazy.

I believe it's quite common in newer tanks as the organic system works itself out

Cool I am glad they aren't bad. The guppies like to eat them so I guess there here to stay. Thanks for the help y'all.
