This is probably one of the biggest misconceptions of the modern era all because of what went on years ago, it was one of the first cichlids discovered many many years ago. Basically, at the time of discovery it was the badest cichlid around and thus it earnt its reputation and name-sake of the Jack Dempsey named after the 30's (i think) boxer a certain Mr Jack Dempsey. Well, since that discovery there have been many more cichlids found in science, and many more aggressive cichlids, so much so that the common Jack Dempsey is really quite timid in comparison. My female is the only boistrous one, the male doesnt give a hoot what goes on in the tank. I kept him with Japonica shrimp and otos and he never bothered, untill i got the female JD, she taught him how to eat them lol. The Electric Blue variant has always been known to be less aggressive than the standard dempsey, and my tank is proof of this.

Paid £55 for my syno angelicus quite a number of years ago. The red cactus plec I had was worth a fair price, especially as an adult and I suspect the EBJD pair are worth a bit too. Nearly bought some syno granulosus this year but the shop was charging £225 each.....decided I wasn't rich enough.![]()

Indeed EBJD pairs are expensive. I payed £25 each for a male and female just over two years ago. I've since lost the female, as with alot of JD's they have health issues when young and she died, however i've since learnt two EBJD breeding WONT create EB fry, so i bought a female JD and now they breed
