what is the easyest and cheapest fish to breed

I heard sailfin mollies were quite difficult.... I did have a pair but the female turned into a MASSIVE male :)
Yeah, that would make breeding difficult ;)

Its got to be convict cichlids, they breed like bunnies and are good parents too, where as live bearers eat their own fry. Angel fish come a close second in my book, the ones i had would lay eggs every two weeks, unfortunately my catfish used to eat all the eggs so i never got any fry. I gave them away in the end via the lfs to a breeder who was looking for another pair, they were trying so hard to protect their eggs and were getting torn to shreds in the process so i thought theyd be happier somewhere they could just get on with it

Convicts breed easily but are very nasty and territorial when spawning. If you are thinking about having them as part of a peaceful community tank...look elsewhere.

I have bred convicts. They are very easy and they are self sufficient. They raise the young themselves and are the best parents I have found so far as opposed to guppies and mollies which eat their babies :sly: All the parents need is some space and either a rock or a good hiding place to lay their eggs. They do the rest. If you want to breed them for the simplicity and facination of it they are great. The young don't bring much money though since they do breed so easily. They can coexist with several generations of young as well I heard but that requires a lot of room the first batch of little ones I had was near 100. The second batch was around 60 I guess. I also have guppies and they have been frustrating. I know they are pregnant and I've only had one batch of babies. I have had them for about 6 months. So out of my experience convicts win

Guppies are easy to breed, each female can give birth up to 30 fry per month, but
Mollies are eaven easier because they don't eat their fry, while guppies do...

platies are easy to breed, and so are bettas (generally)

I agree with you completely about the platies, :) But bettas are by no means cheap (remember, dozens of fry have to be in seperate tanks) and I wouldn't say they're easy either. -_-

I'd say Mollies or guppies... I like mollies black better.. but guppies a very pretty too

convicts are usually easy to breed. you could only keep a pair though, as anything else would be killed.

otherwide, guppies, platies and mollies are the way to go...

Guppies!
I know a kid who had over 300 fry in a 10.
he had no where else to take them.
He started with 1 male and 2 females. Some how the female fry soon became naomal females, and had babies alll on their ow, whilst' the origanal momas are giving birth.
His thieroy is that the parents were vegatarians, and didn't like canabaleism....

I started reading this post and was wondering why I hadn't heard of any of the members which had posted...this topic was started back in 2003, and its 2005 now...???

You should read the pinned artciles on livebearer breeding in the livebearer section, livebearers like guppys, mollys, platys and swordtails are reletavely easy to breed but can produce hundreds of fry and you also need to get the gender ratios right as well- i wouldn't advice any livebearer to breed unless you have a fry tank of at least 10gallons and a lfs that will take the fry off you.
