What Is Squared Off?

Which one, in regards to breeding?
Generally a lot of species of fish require warmer waters than their usual living conditions, in order to breed so it's probably possible to control breeding this way. Although in regards to platies I don't think you can stop them

If fry grow up faster in warmer water, so would the embrios I guess and therefore it will take longer in cold water for the fish to give birth in comparisson with warmer but I am just speculating from the back of my head, which is mostly empty

Yes that's what I meant, snazy. I used to run it at 25-25.5ºC but now it's between 24 and 24.2ºC. To be honest I think I'm going to leave it there and see if it has any impact on the length of her breeding cycle. Fingers crossed!

my soon to be mother molly is starting to square up nicely and i think she will drop around 30 as well. i plan to leave her and the other molly in with the fry and just continue to feed all 3 times a day

I introduced peas to the mollies and the adults liked them. I crushed up bloodworms to a finer powder for the fry and gave them some of that and they loved it! they are now on two different foods and growing faster than weeds! The fry will be 2 weeks old tomorrow night. Can't believe my other molly is about to drop now!

i think i have finally figured out the difference between my two black molly females... the one that gave birth already has a faint almost white streak on her belly and the other one doesn't! yay! now i can name my ladies!

I'm really shocked sunny has around 5 eyes visible and she's just gone 2 and half weeks since last fry where born, I hope she will be ok moving her into the nursery and doesn't stress her

hi Borngemini - long time no see!
Are you moving her now? She could be another 2-2½ weeks yet.

HELP!!! I just noticed that my Black Molly has ICH and she is due to drop any day now. I'm concerned for her well-being and that of her fry and all the other fry in the tank... As soon as i noticed she had the spots i immediately changed the filter out and put some medicine that treats ICH in the tank. I have some aquarium salt that i will add to the tank and i also added some Melafix to the tank as well. I plan on doing a partial water change in the morning. Is there anything else i can do to help her so she won't be stressed for her delivery?

I've heard that Stress Coat by API is good for stressful situations if you can get it, but I have no experience of treating Ich Linda - try posting it as a new topic in Tropical Emergencies.

i did post it in that section... just thought i'd ask some of you all since she is so close to dropping. I hope it won't effect her fry. She is still swimming around and acting pretty good..  she just looks like a marbled molly now... with white spots... She has become anti-social with "Momma"  and normally those two are hanging out together. However, due to her being so close to dropping she is anti-social right now. I put the Melafix in the tank cause i know that is also supposed to help some with stress though it isn't the same as the stress coat... i am aware of that but it has the Tea tree oil in it which is good for many things i do know.

I hope she's alright and you get some helpful advice, Linda
Good luck and let us know how she gets on.

LOL... maybe i have now figured out what to name this molly! i hadn't come up with a name yet... so perhaps she will be named spot! Has anyone ever heard of ICH being transferred from mother to child in cases like this? OR am i the lucky one that is getting something unheard of? LOL

Hahaha! Have you read the replies to your emergency posting? Looked like there was some good advice in there

i haven't had any replies to my post yet... but i've been looking around... my main concern is the fry she is carrying... and her stress level due to pregnancy and sickness.

I saw that, but I thought there was some good general advice on the treatment for Ich tho not specific to pregnant fish. Are you going to increase the temperature?
