Thought it would be a good idea to start a thread dedicated to food and feeding regimens for community fish. Also, tips on what to do and what not to do while preparing their food and feeding might also be helpful.

Tried my tank on swede a while back - the family were having some for dinner, so I took some from the saucepan, finely chopped and then mashed with the back of a fork. The fish loved it.

Cucumber was always enjoyed in my previous tanks... as were peas

most veggies are OK and
i used to also feed fruit
as well such as strawberries
peach pear apple but it some times
need to be blanched like carrot
an potato and cabbage lettuce
will all need blanching courgette
i would blanch that to

Cucumber and peas, My fish demolished them, all they Were doing was about 20 fish all eating one small piece of cucumber.

My way of doing frozen peas is good (I think ha ha):

Everyone says that garlic is good for fishs' immune systems and you can soak peas in it before you feed it to them. Well I boil them up with half a clove of garlic in the pan , that way it all gets infused and you don't have to mess around soaking them for ages.

Then I squeeze the peas out of their shells (when they're cooled) and chop them up as finely as I possibly can. Then I feed them a pinch of it the same as I would normal fish food!

I think the answer to this is, everything veg. but, if your fish will eat it, well that's the thing. its a case of trying, and see what your fish like.

you might also like to look at tinned veg, providing you check salt levels. they are as, if not more, nutritious than fresh. and, as the fibre is compromised by cooking, much more useful fibre is derived to the fish. it may seem counter intuitive. but studies show, even in humans, that digestion and nutritional recovery, is aided.
