What Filter? And Sand From Where?

I just use play sand with some small gravel just lightly put randomly around.

I had to clean my sand for 20-30 min. Lots of rinsing with the hose outside. Playsand is dusty.

i read a while back that ToysRus sand has no fine dust in it ? is that true?

The fluval plus ranges are basically two sponge pads,in between which you can put the usual,floss,carbon pads etc,I run just the sponge and floss on mine,dead easy to claen and maintain,and a pack of sponges is only about a fiver (you hardly ever need to replace them though,just rinse them out once a week or whatever).
Re the sand,I've got Argos playsand in one tank,only about £3 for a big bag,hardly took any rinsing,settled almost straight away and has had no issues since 9planted tank).

I'd say Tetratec EX700 myself, got one on a slightly smaller tank with sand and the flow is fine. Only thing is you may have to shorten the intake to clear the substrate (I did), only takes a few minutes with a hacksaw though (or about 3 seconds with an electric one... ).

I used the Argos playsand, it was easier to wash than the gravel.
