My female guppy dropped 45-50 fry two days ago and now i want to feed my fry. Are they eat the same food as adult guppies? I have flake food, frozen brine shrimp and blood worms.
Thanks

My fry just eat smaller portions of what the parents eat. I use crushed flake and then move on to a few bloodworms.

uMc, the fry can easily be raised using the identical food that you feed the adult fish. All you need do is to grind a bit of the food between your finger tips to feed those fry. They will do better if they are fed several small feedings each day and as always you need to keep the water pristine. To me that means several water changes each week to avoid any contamination from the frequent feedings.

after a month as well, feeding bbs (baby brine shrimp) is good for them, thats if it is available to buy in your area.. or you could have your own bbs hatchery and do it yourself:)

I got a small plastic tub with a lid added all the freeze dried food my adults eat, flakes shrimp Ect, then ground it up with the back of a teaspoon until it was a powder ... And hey presto 1 tub of baby food.

My fry tank is similar to the below tank. I'm not sure how many gallons it is. I guess it's too small for 45-50 fry in next couple weeks when the fry grow up a bit
I use the water from the parents tank to ensure it's good condition. how often you change the water for your fry?

My fry tank is without filter. I have a tiny pump i can put in the tank, do you think i need to?
I put few stems of Hornwort in the tank for the fry to play

I have a 20g fry tank heated and filtered and I do a 25% water change every 2-3 days. When they were smaller and not eating as much I did daily water changes because of the food waste. Think with a tiny tank like that you can use a spong filter( lots of info on this forum on how to do that). Keeping fish and raising fry I have learned over the past couple of months is all about the water quality.I would also recommend going through all the new fry threads on here as I have found the information in those very helpful.

Look at the space you would want for your 45 fish when they are adults. Unless you can easily move some of them out, that is what you will have in just a few months. For guppies, you could probably get away with a 29 gallon that is well maintained. If you don't want to do frequent large water changes, you might want to go to a larger tank.
If you are running that 2 gallon toy without a filter, do daily 75% or larger water changes.

I'll do the ammonia test and see how bad it is, so i have an idea how often i need to change the water. if i do 75% water change the new water will kill my fry and if i use the water from the parents tank everyday like that the new water will attack the parents. the parents tank is 38 gallons

I was thinking to put them in the 5 gallons bucket or 65quart cooler heehhehe

Daily water changes can be done using temperature matched tap water and a decent dechlorinator. New water does not harm fish but chlorine does.

When I bred guppies, I fed them the following

1st week
Hard boiled egg yolk mashed with a little water

2nd week
Introduce powdered flake but keep feeding egg yolk too

3rd week
Start with some bbs. No more yolk, unless they are starving. Also give them more flake

4th week
Adult brine hrimp and larger flake

5th week
They should start developing color.

Hope this helps! :good:
