What Can I Add?

I have a 63l tank with 5 neon tetras and 3 honey gourami. Although there are 8 fish in there most of the time you can't see any they're so small! I would like to add something a bit more 'substantial' but don't know what.

And also how many more fish do you think I could put in there? I've been working to the 1cm of fish per litre rule but my boyfriend says that's not true. So now I'm all confused and don't know what I can or can't add based on size.

shrimp don't produce much of a bioload so you could probably have a pair of them.Or african dwarf frogs,they are really cute but hard to feed

1cm per litre is fine, it works very well!

you could add 7 more neons which would bring you up to being fully stocked. or you could add some bulkier fish such as platies or other livebearers, maybe some cories?

yeah a larger school of neons would looks good. Cherry shrimps would be good as well.

You have plenty of space in there for more fish. I would recommend some bottom dwellers such as corys or small loaches.

How long has it been set up?
How long has it been cycled?
What sizes would you say the fish are at the mo?
What is your water change routine and your water stats as of today?

How long has it been cycled? About 2 months
What sizes would you say the fish are at the mo? The neons are all about 3-4cm, the gouramis about 4cm
What is your water change routine and your water stats as of today? Water change routine about a third each week, haven't checked the stats for a couple of days but last time ammonia and nitrites 0, nitrates 5ppm

That all sounds great.

Though the honeys aren't fully grown yet, they'll get to 6cm or so each.

Gravel isn't the best for corys, but so long as it's smooth gravel it should be fine. So I would definitely recommend them.

Also upping your neons, or adding another small shoal of fish would probably look good.

In a 60l tank I'd say honeys are quite a good sized 'centerpiece' fish.

I am thinking about frogs as well, and from what I read they are okay to have with cherry shrimp as well for that extra "unusual" factor. *Be warned I am VERY new at this so any counter opinions will override mine*

The only problems I've heard of with dwarf frogs is that they're easily out competed for food in community set-ups. They don't normally pose a threat to any of their fishy companions.
