What Are You Opinions On These Fish?

Hi I know many people have done many of these but hey-Ho!

I am currently looking at new stocking for some tanks and need opinions on the fish I am looking at. Fish profiles are all well and good and I obviously listen to those! Buy when considering behaviour and tank mates I would prefer to be sure based on some opinions on here from people who have owned the fish aswell!

If its ok I will do fish by fish for now.
First one - Celestial Pearl Danio (Galaxy rasbora)
What are these fish really like? I see many in different stores but they always look really dull colouring and never very active. I know with certain fish this can change when they are brought home. So what are they like really are they playful and active? Are they worth getting or am I better off getting a different shoaling fish?

How big of a shoal could I have in 65 litre tank (15gallon approx)

i don't know nothing about that fish at all lol but a really nice shoaling fish is the tetras. really bright colours and seem to hang around the middle of the tank. you could get quite a few too around 15 i'd say and still have a bit of room. 15 rummy nose tetras and 15 neon tetras would go quite well. altho i really dunno how to stock a tank well. kept two rams in a 250 litre tank for 3 months and was quite happy watching them try finding each other. 65 litres is 14.298 gallons uk and 17.17118 us

Galaxy Rasbora are now known as Celestial Pearl Danios got reclassified a year or so ago...

They are one of my favourite fish!! The are so expressive, have hilarious behaviours in a shoal and will colour up amazing.

They will never fully colour up in small brightly lit tanks with pale substrate... the get the best out of them, keep lots of plants and wood and a reasonably dark gravel, even if its the darker river stones, just not white or grey or sand...

They change colour on the spot nearly when put with darker gravel! I would have a shoal of about 20 or so... they look amazing in groups! but just to have a couple is pointless, wont colour up so well and they are so tiny!

I wouldnt personally go for such a fish in a 65l. In a tank that small, they're not going to have a great deal of space and they are fast swimmers. Danios can get from one end to the other of even a 4ft before your eyes can.

Hmmm. IMO they aren't half as flighty and fast moving as zebra danios, and MUCH smaller. I'd say they'd be fine in this tank (and very cute!), just to put in my 2p worth

I'd agree, I'm actually really surprised they got reclassified as a Danio - they are nothing like the Zebra/Leopard Danio, miles smaller, miles slower. YOu certainly want a shoal of them, but how big depends on what else you want/have got in the tank. A minimum of probably 8 of them, with the tank set up as MBOU suggested.

Galaxy Rasbora are excellent, i've got 4 young ones a 7 litre fluval spec tank at the moment and will be moving them into my 90 litre very shortly along with 16 more. I just need to offload my kribs first

Even in such a small tank they have coloured up extremely well and display for dominance already. Im really looking forward to have a decent size school of them. They do not speed around like typical danio's but do very quick short bursts. Mine obviosuly cant do a lot in 7 litres of water ( ) but its plenty big enough for them for a few more weeks Then its shrimp time for the nano.

Alright if no one knows about Clown Killifish then what about German Blue Ram's?

Clown Killies are awesome, one of my favourite fish! They arent so easy to look after, a lot more delicate and really very small, not seen any in shops recently, mainly because when i have ordered them.. a "Large" comes in between 5mm and 8mm, they go through the filtration

As for rams, i LOVE bolivian rams, i just hate Blue rams though, too messed about with and have a habit of being nasty little sods. I kept a pair of blue rams (my ex put them in my tank ) and they slowly and very sneakily, whilst looking very cute... started picking off my celestial pearl danios one by one, usually at night. They werent even a breeding pair of rams but two young females!

Ok out of all the Cichlids you have ever owned, in your opinion what as been your favourite and why.
I am trying to choose between Apistogramma Borelli, Trifasciata and Viejita atm.

If you have owned any or all of them, what were they like and what sort of price do they come at?

At this moment in time myself I am favouring the Trifasciata's. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the others but I can't seem to find them anywhere!

The only problem I've found with cichilids is that in a small group the become very aggressive very simIlar to the problem I having with my red eye tetras at the moment but I have only experienced malawi chicilids so I'm not sure on the others
