Yesterday I want fishing up at Roaring Fork. It was an epic day: I caught probably two dozen fish. And they were all about this size. Behold, trophies of magnificence!

When you need a magnifying glass to gut them...you have to let them go.

Those little Brookies are great for breakfast . Fry up a mess of them and make some hash browns and you have a meal fit for a King .
Meanwhile here along the banks of The Yellowstone River I’ve been riding my bike a lot . Did sixty miles the 2nd and 43 and 54 this week . Going to go out and blast through an easy 25 today to celebrate the Tour De France . A guy needs an easy day every so often . Running is still in the mix and I’m looking forward to sweating off a few more pounds this month .
And in fish news . . . . the heaters are unplugged and for some reason my very prolific gardneri have slowed up . No matter , I have over 30 fry I’m raising up l

You're absolutely right! Little brookies are delicious. But like I said, when you need a microscope to gut them out...

This is fish related and i'm not going to talk about non-fish related stuff in a fish forum but today i had to clean one of my matten filters - and i gotta say it really was not any fun at all. It is my largest one and it is around 24x17 which is really one pretty large sponge. Now it isn't the largest sponge in the world but it really is a pain in the butt to take it out of the aquarium (without making a mess) and take it somewhere where it can be cleaned (without making a mess).

for those odd folks in weird part of the worlds i work in inches not funky mm because in truth a 24mmx17mm sponge would have been a whole lot easier to deal with then this spong-of-crap.

Why did i have to clean it - well this is the odd part - it was clogged but it was only a few months old. I can normally run them for 2+ years without cleaning but this sucker had to be cleaned and it had to be cleaned right away because water wouldnt' flow through it. Gee who would thought a new sponge would come pre-filled with crap. That's my only explanation. Of course the plants covering the surface from top to bottom (Süsswassertang) had nothing to do with the issue.

I have finally shortened a pair of trousers.
I turned 73 last week and I have noticed over the last year that my clothes have been getting longer. My osteopath said yesterday it's what comes of getting old

I'm working on a few bow projects today: Finishing up a rowan branch bow for a friend, then doing a reasonably scientific experiment to determine the usefulness of tannin to make hide glue water-resistant.

I'm stuck at work, hopefully for not too much longer. We're in a heat wave right now (temp at 6 this morning was 81!). Planning on moving the 2 snake terrariums from my room to the basement as the radiant heat panels (RHPs) jus heat my room too much overnight. Just got done placing an order for some Terra Sahara from Bio Dude to refresh their substrate. Unfortunately it wont be here till the 20th...

A full afternoon spent maintaining my aquarium’s . Water changes , filters squeezed out and feeding . Some of my smallest Fundulopanchax gardneri appear to be coloring up at only a half inch . These are fun fish to be working with and all the more so since I have a goodly number now . It’s been hotter than Hogan’s goat the past few days and late this afternoon we got a nice rain and the temperature dropped 20 degrees . It’s going to be nice sleeping tonight .

I'm moving a 20 gallon tank today. It'll have a 4 hour drive. One of my grown up kids is moving long distance and can't take it with her, so I'll integrate it and its healthy older fish into my fishroom..

I'm somewhat jealous. I gave her all the plants in the tank, but how she's grown them is fantastic. I have no tanks even close to this. She uses no ferts, and no CO2, but the red plants are huge and bushy. It can be done. I made a rack space for the tank and will do my best to keep it looking as it does now. Maybe in a couple of months I'll lie to everyone and say I did it all myself so I can win tank of the month.

She's a skilled outdoor gardens person, and the skills have translated. Plus she has a 4 year old Fundulopanchax gardneri in there - showing his age but living on. I'll move him very carefully. There are 5 Hoplisoma panda panda here that are the largest I've seen, and that spawn all the time. I have some of their young at home. They'll travel well. Luckily, it'll be warm but not terribly hot.

While I'm here in my regional hub city, I'll visit two aquarium stores. Summer's always slow in aquarium retail, but I'll have a snoop anyway.

Today I took my Spaniel "Bracken" to the beach. I say beach, but it's the docks at the mouth of the River Wear where it meets the sea at Roker in Sunderland. UK

Besides my daily fish keeping duties, today I get to receive a new 32" Samsung 4K TV and sound system. Then try to figure out how to set it up in my office.

I have been feeding the fish twice per day instead of once per day in a run up to my departure. The generator has adequate propane just in case we experience one of my areas frequent outages. Light timers set for 6 hours of illumination per day. AC thermostat set at 78F. Have I left anything out?

Yeppers you gotta leave them an emergency number so they can call you if a problem arises.
