What's new

What are you doing today?

Celebrating another trip around the sun today. My best friend (aside from Mrs. Badger, of course) is in town from Cali with his wife, also a good friend. Yesterday he and I spent the whole day driving and hiking around in the foothills and desert, looking at elk, antelope, wild horses (we found one that was a dead ringer for Shadowfax, and one of his foals was an albino!), and cool rocks (we found some excellent pieces of jasper which I plan on gifting to a friend who does flint knapping).

Today, after a big breakfast, we went for a four mile hike in the mountains, on a trail that was a favorite hunting spot in my younger days, but that I haven't been on since before Mrs. Badger and I got together. It's still beautiful. In fact it looks as if no one but elk, moose, and deer have been on it for years: No footprints, four wheeler tracks, or noxious weeds in sight. That alone was worth the price of admission. Throw in some good company, good snacks, and four miles of amazing scenery? Well.

Now I'm hanging out waiting for everyone to emerge from their post-nap showers so we can go out for pizza.

Isn’t it nice when you find something like that ? Getting harder to do with the mountains being more crowded . You’re blessed Man .

A few pics from yesterday's safari. Pardon the quality: I really need to get a real camera one of these days.

Shadowfax and his mares. That one in the middle is bright silver, muscular, with a long mane...I have mixed feelings about wild horses but this guy was just magnificant.

You can't really see it in the picture, but that foal is a true albino: White with light tan, almost yellow markings, and pink eyes!

Happy belated birthday @WhistlingBadger! I usually hate adding another one to the tally but it sounds like yours was perfection! Here's to many more!
And yeah, you need a camera. Time to start dropping hints for the next birthday. ;)

Happy birthday. That sounds like you didn't waste an opportunity to celebrate.

I've never seen most of the animals you saw in one day.

I’m in the middle of a power outage that started 3 AM. Luckily I have a generator. Six of eight tanks are being powered by the generator. A five gallon hospital tank and a five gallon fry tank are not. The hospital tank is empty. I think the fry will survive a few more hours of the outage which is predicted to end soon. One of my local fish shops wants two dozen yellow tiger endlers which I will bring to them later today. More store credit for me.

The power outage is over. All the fish seem healthy. I did a water change on a densely planted 20 gallon long with one adult cockatoo and 10 glowlight tetras. Lo and behold I found a four month old cockatoo in the tank from the last spawn. He has been hiding all this time. I netted and placed him in another 20 gallon long housing his siblings. I have two local fish shops ready to purchase the 30 or so fish.

Went to a car show today with 126 cars and 5 awards. In such shows, hopes for winning anything are n’ill…..it’s just fun to go and sit/walk with your car buddies. Well, as luck would have it, my car won the Mayor’s Choice Trophy. I was surprised and honored he selected my car from all the nice cars there. It’s been a good showing season so far, but this award probably means the most.

The car is a 1980 Datsun 280ZX 10th Anniversary Edition of which there were only 500 produced….this is #241. It’s a blast to drive and a bucket list item from back then when I was young and couldn’t afford a car like this. :yahoo:

Then…when I got home, my fish let me know I was a bit late in feeding them :fish:

Right now I am at work, worrying about a little leak by my 15 gallon. Didn't have time this morning to figure out the area and if its the tank or something else. Guess its good I leave at 2:30 today.
Tank buts right next to the 13 gal saltwater so its going to be hard to pinpoint any leak specifically.
Saltwater to left, puffer tank (15gal) to right.

BTW happy belated B-day Tom, looks like it was a fun one.

How does that work? Do you have to buy into a lottery drawing or something?
Yes, it's a lottery drawing. Each area has a fixed number of licenses awarded, so odds depend on how many people enter the drawing. I put in for two areas this year, and each usually has about a 30% chance, so I was hoping I'd get at least one. I can still hunt elk in the general area, but antelope are off the menu this year.
