What Are These?

you have other cichlids or fish in with them?

yes i have bettas and 2 jewels, 2 gouramis,2angels,and a rainbow shark, also 1 reed fish, and 1pantodon
they dont seem to be afraid of any of them! they eat like pigs too!!

also just want to say thanks!! the old world forum was sooo much help!! all i found out is it wasnt a kangaroo!

well when i had these fish i wanted to know what the blotches were so i posted in one of my other forum that i used to go on and they said that it was stress but the markings can appear for the slightest things,as they are shy fish but they might not like the stocking of your tank you'll have to ask someone else for stocking though because ive never tryed them with tropical fish i always had them with malwai cichlids.you do realize these fish do grow biggish?

i was told they will get 1 or 2 inches then loose there black marks in a year!! how big is "biggish"??

can grow to be a maximum of 10 inches in length although females tend to be slightly smaller than males. This species has the potential to live for approximately 12 to 15 years. They are slow growing and take a long time to reach sexual maturity.

basically what nelly said they do grow biggish, and your right on the marks but they do come and go when they are older aswell .it takes 1-2 years for these to reach the breeding size of 4-5inch.

 is a 55 gallon big enough for them?

That looks like SIEMISE FIGHTING FISH goole the name i gave u and see if that match up with ur photo ,let me know

id say at the momant yes but you'd have to upgrade somewhere along the line as these fish like a lot of space in the tank they like alot of swimming space and not too much decor as the more decor you have the less space.

:p ya that my Viva..... the Betta
