i need some advice on feeding my convict fry. the parents i gave away because they became too violent, and the others im going to farm for my shrimp. id like them to get a little bigger and want to feed them for 3 or 4 days. sorry if this offends you as they are feeder fish, but are you against making shrimp happy too?? lol anyways, i have them in a floating nursery and i crushed up flake food into powder and gave them some. hardly any if any ate it....is this right to do?? give them time?? or should i just throw them to the shrimp

thanks all

(also id like to keep a few to raise then give away for store credit)

i have 30 baby guppy fry
and 4 baby plattys
i feed them all crushed up tropical fish food.
i crush it up into powder like you said you done.
i feeed them once a day
and if you just keep feeding them they start to eat it.
my guppy fry are the newest to the tank and they all eat crushed up flakes.
so thats what i use.
maybe try that?
xo

I'd try bbs. see if you can get your hands on some, since they won't eat the other.

keep offering the flake...they may start to take it, like jennakid said.

Newly hatched brineshrimp and microworms are the best thing to offer. Feed the fry 3 or 4 times a day and make sure they have fat little stomachs. However, it depends on the shrimp you are feeding. If they are a small species of shrimp then you might be better off feeding them the fry now.

Don't forget also that not all fry begin feeding in the same way - the fry of egg layers usually do not eat anything for the first day or two as they will be eating their yolk-sac. Only when they become free swimming do they begin to eat food that is offered. The smaller the fry then obviously the smaller the food you need to use. For typically small fry, like those of some cichlids, either a good liquid food or crushed up flakes until they are slightly bigger (say from the 2nd week).

Livebearer fry tend to be a bit larger and normally begin feeding straight away after birth - but again, you need to use your judgement as to their size and the size of the food you are giving them. There are liquid foods available for both egg-layers fry or live-bearers fry, if you see that they are not managing to eat the crushed up flakes or bbs.

Either way, fry should be fed more than once a day to avoid stunted growth - 4 times at least is recommended.
