Hello

Today's morning I was given 5 19l bottles of culligan water, is it safe to use it for 25% weekly water changes? /the problem is that id does not actually say what is actual water content regarding minerals/

thanks
Bart

don't know what this culligan water is exactly so can't comment specifically, however generally it's not advisable to use things like bottled drinking waters or pure RO/distilled water in fish tanks.

fish extract minerals from the water around them by osmosis, if you have them in water with the wrong mineral content while it won't do anything bad in the short term, in the long term it's like feeding them on nothing but McDonalds..... it's not gonna do them any favours!

is there a reason you are thinking about not using tap water? In the vast majority of cases tap water is the best option for water changes and it is of course.... cheap cheap cheap!!

Not much point, just use tap water and add some form of dechlorinator that deals with chlorine and chloramine. Bottled water doesn't have any tangible benefits for most fishkeepers, which is why we use tap water and dechlor.

man just use normal tap water...

add all the chlorinates and it should be fine :)

you could try giving them a phone call, or e-mail to find out the mineral content...

It would be a waste to not use it, but as others have said it could have too many salts etc in it. If in doubt, dont use.

Oh I'm not suggesting you waste the mineral water. I'd advise you to drink it, and use tap water for the fish.

culligan is a water filtration system, they produce a range of household filters, with differing filtration ability's. unless you know exactly what type of filter was used, i would not bother asking the firm for info. these filter have an, effective, mesh size. ranging from 1μm-110μm, depending on the unit.
