Water Cycle Question

Right just got a quick question to do with the water cycle. I'm setting my tank up tomorrow and i've got my gravel and water treatment. Now, this may sound a bit daft, but I havent got any fish food, and i read you put some in to help the cycle get underway. I have literally zero money at the min so cant afford to get any, is their anything else i can use to start the cycle?

Please don't just leave the water sitting for a week then add fish (i bet that is what your LFS said to do?).

I agree on the fishless cycle its the best way, and the cheapest as you can lose quite a few fish due to a cycle.
